Also, are the 2U and larger keys configured with 2 flippers and springs out of the box, or is that something I’d have to add myself afterwards? If I have to add it myself afterwards, are there enough flippers and springs provided in the order to do that (for instance to split up the left shift or the backspace), or would I have to order some? I realize the HHKB splits some of these already — I’m just wondering about the permanence of some of these configuration options, in case I want to reconfigure things after buying and using the keyboard for a while.
Yes on the 1U keys – they are $2 extra (just add the store item “$1 increments” to your cart as required).
The larger keys have 1 spring. To add extra splits you’d need to order extra springs+flippers. You cannot change between HHKB split right shift and regular right shift as some of the barrels moved around to accommodate those splits.
