Hello!
I see you are creating new molds for keycaps instead ordering through unicomp.
This is probably good because I have heard that the quality of unicomp keycaps (especially the dye-sublime legends) can be quite inconsistent.
I am wondering what kind of quality can be expected from the new production keycaps and dye-sublimation printing. Do you think they will be as good as the key-sets from original model F keyboards?
Yep – the aim of the brand new key molds is to match the original Model F XT keys in quality, texture, and quality of the dye sublimation legends, with no excess flash or out of spec dimensions. I am hoping that the new keys are close.
These good quality keys from new molds will also be fully compatible with original Model M and Model F keyboards. Everyone can order just the keys as a spare set or to replace a set of worn out keys from an original buckling spring keyboard.
Wow! That sounds promising.
The quality of the dye sublimation legends of the IBM Model F XT is among the best I have ever seen. I will totally order a set then. I personally think it might be hard to match the IBM Model F XT but if it does then buying yet another key-set to put on another buckling-spring keyboards would be totally worth it. Even if they are expensive when comparing to Unicomp.
I am glad your goal is to create something of much higher quality than what Unicomp offers today.
